SPRINKLERS SAVE BORO BUILDING
Fri, Apr 13th, 2018 6:37:00 pm 2047 hours the WVFC and Engine 34 (Newmanstown) were dispatched to the Boot Works Building at 30 N. 3rd St. for a sprinkler activation alarm.

Deputy 47 arrived on scene and was met by employees who were reporting a fire inside the building. Deputy 47 confirmed smoke in the building and upgraded the call to a building fire which brought additional fire companies from Marion, Robesonia, Richland, and Myerstown, along with EMS.

Ladder 47 arrived on scene and set up for operations while Engine 47 was directed to Mulberry Alley next to the building and put an 1 3/4" water line in service.

Engine 34 established a primary water supply by laying into Engine 47 from a hydrant at 4th and High Sts. while Engine 52 (Marion) secured a secondary water supply from a hydrant at 4th and Franklin Sts.

Crews located the source of the fire which had initially been extinguished by the sprinkler system while an employee used an extinguisher. The fire caused a heavy smoke condition throughout the building.

Companies set up numerous ventilation fans and monitored carbon monoxide levels in various areas of the building. The fire was deemed electrical and there were no injuries.
