November 11, 2024

WVFC volunteers answered 5 calls for service including 3 reported structure fires since Friday through Sunday.

Friday - 11/9

8:10pm - WVFC was due to assist the Robesonia FC at 377 Jackie Ave. in Heidelberg Twp. for a kitchen fire. Crews from the Robesonia FC arrived to find a fire on the stove out upon arrival and the assignment was held to Co.26 and Ladder 47 for ventilation.

8:31pm - Just after the WVFC cleared from the previous call, units were dispatched to the 100 BLK of Forest Rd. in North Heidelberg Twp. for a brush fire, assisting the Bernville FC. Attack 47 arrived first and deployed a booster line extinguishing an approximate 30' x 30' fire in a hay field.

Saturday - 11/10

7:56am - Ladder 47 responded for a fire alarm at the Wernersville State Hospital. Alarm was set off due to burnt food in a microwave.

8:17am - As Ladder 47 was returning from the previous call, the structure assignment was dispatched for 37 Lamm Rd. in Heidelberg Twp. Ladder 47 was about a mile away and arrived quickly with nothing visible from the exterior. Crews made entry and found a moderate smoke condition and a small fire in a bathroom. The fire was held to the room of origin with an water extinguisher. The area was overhauled and the home was ventilated and returned back to the homeowner. It should be noted a working smoke detector alerted the family thus having them get to safety quickly and calling 911.

1022pm - Ladder 47 was dispatched to assist the Bernville FC at 793 New Schaefferstown Rd. in Jefferson Twp. for a house fire. First arriving units found a small fire in a ceiling which was quickly extinguished and Ladder 47 was cancelled.
