For this past Tuesday's training night, the WVFC went over the mountain to Lancaster County to visit the Denver Fire Co. where we each went over the type of Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) equipment each company carries. Denver Fire Co. is dispatched as RIT for several fire companies in Berks County.
A RIT Team is a group of firefighters specifically dispatched for the rescue of down or trapped firefighters. In the event of low manpower or multiple alarm incidents, it is getting more likely that RIT teams from multiple companies will be dispatched to working incidents and will need to work together. We felt it was important to familiarize ourselves with the equipment and set-up with neighboring companies who we could work together as RIT.
