On Saturday, June 28 at 630 pm the WVFC, Rescue 34 (Newmanstown) and Western Berks EMS were dispatched for a vehicle crash with fire and ejection at the intersection of Route 422 and N. Water St. in Womelsdorf Borough.
During the dispatch the assignment was upgraded with entrapment adding Attack 47 and Rescue 31 (Keystone of Myerstown) and additional EMS units.
Upon arriving on scene, emergency personnel confirmed one subject ejected but no fire and entrapment and Rescue 31 was cancelled. Personnel assisted with patient care, vehicle hazards and stabilization. Fire police closed the eastbound lanes of Route 422 between N. 3rd St and High St. diverting traffic.
Two drivers were involved. Unfortunately one subject was confirmed to be deceased. The other was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Engine 47 assisted with lighting and fire police assisted with closing the roadway until the accident reconstruction completed their investigation at approximately 11:30 pm.
During the incident, Ladder 47 handled a fire alarm in Millcreek Twp. which was determined to be false.
The crash is under investigation by the Womelsdorf Police and PA State Police.
