| After months of delays which seemed like forever and unexpected issues out of our hands, the WVFC took delivery of our 1997 Pierce ladder from Glick Fire Equipment Company last Friday. The truck was out of service from 2/25/25 through 3/24/26 for its refurbishment.
This past Tuesday our members transferred all the equipment from our reserve ladder back to the truck and it was placed in service late Tuesday night.
While the general public may not notice any physical changes to the truck, there was significant work completed. Primarily, the aerial ladder was removed, stripped, repairs made and repainted. While the ladder was off, new hydraulic lines, cables. electric wiring, and sensors were installed throughout the ladder as well as new lift cylinders were installed. All outriggers were gone over with new hydraulic lines and wiring. Finally, some compartment work was completed with new electric outlets being installed for use for charging additional portable equipment.
We hope this refurbishment will extend the life of the ladder truck for another 10-15 years at a fraction of the cost of a new ladder truck, which would cost $1-2 million dollars. |
