On Friday August 26 at 2030 hours the WVFC was dispatched to assist Co.26 (Robesonia) with vehicle crash involving a two-vehicle head-on collision involving fire in the 900 BLK of W. Penn Ave. in front of the Johnny and Hons Restaurant in Heidelberg Twp.
Tanker 26 quickly responded as it was at the Conrad Weiser High School football game and Berks DES advised they were receiving additional calls reporting people trapped and the assignment was upgraded, adding Rescue 18 (Western Berks FD). Due to the severity of the crash Assistant 26-1 also added Rescue 34 (Newmanstown).
Tanker 26 and Western Berks EMS arrived on scene confirming no fire and had four patients with injuries, two in each vehicle. Additional medic units from the City of Reading Fire & Rescue were requested.
Engine 47 arrived on scene splitting crews with one stretching the bumper line as a precaution and the other crew deploying our hydraulic combi-tool. It was determined there was no entrapment but the driver's door of the one vehicle was removed to allow more access to remove the driver from the vehicle. Crews from all companies assisted with patient care, hazard control, lighting, and debris clean-up while fire police shut down Route 422 until the vehicles were removed from the roadway.
After all patients were removed to EMS the assignment was held to Co. 26 and 47. The crash is under investigation by the South Heidelberg Twp. PD. |
