On Thursday, July 18 just before 4pm, the WVFC along with numerous mutual aid companies were dispatched to 146 W. High St. for a building fire. Berks DES advised the occupant was reporting an air fryer on fire that was spreading and upgraded the call with entrapment after it was reported an occupant had gone back inside to attempt to extinguish the fire. However, as units began arriving Berks DES reported the occupant made it back outside.
Ladder 47 arrived on scene and reported smoke showing from the 2nd floor, making it a working fire, while Deputy 47 established 'Womelsdorf Command'. A crew from the ladder made entry and found a small fire in the kitchen and quickly extinguished it using a water extinguisher, holding the fire to the room of origin. Engine 52 stretched a precautionary line and Engine 34 and Engine 26 secured water supply from nearby hydrants. Squad 33 took the RIT assignment however the incident was scaled back, holding the assignment to units from 47, 26, and 52. The apartment was ventilated and checked with meters to make sure it was safe for the occupants to re-enter and turned back over to the occupants.
There were no injuries and the fire is not considered suspicious. Thanks to our mutual aid fire companies who assisted. The WVFC had 14 volunteers operating.
